"Dear Mr. President" Student Essay Contest
What are some of the issues you feel strongly about? Is it higher education? Or could it be initiatives to protect the environment? Now, students can share their thoughts, and both teachers and students could earn great prizes!
This fall, WorldStrides is proud to sponsor Rand McNally’s “Dear Mr. President” student essay contest, where students are invited to express their views about an issue that matters to them. This is a perfect opportunity for teachers to strengthen their students’ civics education by making this contest a classroom activity. See what issues are most important to your class and raise awareness of other issues they may not have addressed.
Teachers can register for the contest and submit their students’ essays online. Downloadable professional lesson plans that meet the Common Core Standards for Speaking and Listening and some National Civics Standards are also available to complement the contest.
One hundred semifinalist winners will have their essays published in a “Dear Mr. President” eBook on NOOK.com and ten finalists will receive a WorldStrides DiscoverNow! trip to Washington, D.C. The two grand prize-winning students will receive a $5,000 529 college savings fund and their schools will receive $5,000 worth of Rand McNally product. More information and official rules of the contest can be found on www.worldstrides.org/mrpresident.
